SASSA is holding a Service Delivery Activation at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi Indoor Sport Complex in Seshego, Limpopo on Friday 4 September 2026 at 09:00. The event offers grant applications, SRD reviews, all grant enquiries and on-site assistance from Home Affairs, Labour and SAPS. Bring your original ID and supporting documents.
24 July 2026 is the last day for SASSA SRD R370 grant payments for July. SASSA distributed July payments in staggered batches throughout the month, with final payouts on 23 and 24 July. Nearly 10 million recipients receive the R370 grant, which remains frozen for the third consecutive year and runs until March 2027.
SASSA Older Persons Grant beneficiaries are demanding that payment dates be fixed to the 1st of every month instead of the current second working day rule, which causes the date to shift each month. At R2,400 for those aged 60 to 74 and R2,420 for those aged 75 and older, pensioners say the unpredictable schedule makes financial planning impossible when living month to month.
The SASSA E-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) step asks you to take a selfie to prove you are the real applicant. This biometric face scan runs on srd.sassa.gov.za and has tripped up thousands of applicants — usually because the camera refuses to load on a mobile browser. Here is what E-KYC is, why it fails and how to fix it.
What Is SASSA E-KYC?
E-KYC stands for Electronic Know Your Customer. It is SASSA’s biometric identity check introduced to fight grant fraud. Instead of just matching your ID number against the Home Affairs database, E-KYC also confirms that the person applying is physically you — by scanning your face.
You will see the screen that says “Let’s confirm it’s really you — We need a quick selfie to complete your verification.”
SASSA will ask you to:
Allow camera access when your browser asks
Position your face in the frame
Follow any on-screen prompts (blink, turn head, etc.)
Wait for the system to confirm your face matches your ID photo
E-KYC is required during:
First-time SRD applications
Annual reconfirmation
Certain account changes flagged for re-verification
Important: Never share your screen or hand your phone to someone else during E-KYC. The scan must show your face only. Scammers posing as “SASSA helpers” have used this step to steal grant access.
Why Is SASSA E-KYC Not Working?
Problem
Likely Cause
Camera does not open
Mobile browser permissions not granted
Page freezes on selfie screen
Mobile browser incompatibility
Face scan keeps failing
Poor lighting or angle
”Camera access denied” error
Browser settings blocking camera
Page loads but nothing happens
Mobile vs desktop rendering issue
The single most common cause is your mobile browser blocking camera access or rendering the E-KYC page incorrectly. The fix most people miss: switch to desktop mode.
Fix 1: Switch to Desktop Mode (Most Effective)
This is the workaround shared widely on social media and it works. The E-KYC page sometimes does not render correctly in mobile browser view, preventing the camera prompt from appearing.
On Android (Chrome):
Open srd.sassa.gov.za in Chrome
Tap the three dots (top right corner)
Scroll down and tap “Desktop site”
The page reloads in desktop view
Now proceed with E-KYC — the camera prompt should appear
On iPhone (Safari):
Open srd.sassa.gov.za in Safari
Tap the AA icon in the address bar
Tap “Request Desktop Website”
The page reloads in desktop view
Proceed with E-KYC
Once you are in desktop mode the camera access popup should appear and the face scan should load properly.
Fix 2: Allow Camera Permission in Your Browser
If your browser has previously denied camera access to srd.sassa.gov.za you will need to manually reset this.
On Chrome (Android):
Tap the three dots → Settings
Go to Site settings → Camera
Find srd.sassa.gov.za and change it from Blocked to Allow
Reload the page and try E-KYC again
On Safari (iPhone):
Go to Settings (phone settings, not Safari)
Scroll to Safari → Camera
Set to Allow
Return to srd.sassa.gov.za and retry
Fix 3: Try a Different Browser
If the camera still does not work after switching to desktop mode, try a completely different browser.
Chrome is the most reliable for srd.sassa.gov.za
If you are on Firefox or Samsung Internet, switch to Chrome
Clear Chrome’s cache before trying: Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data
Fix 4: Improve Your Lighting and Position
If the camera loads but your face scan keeps failing:
Sit facing a window or light source — not with light behind you (backlit selfies always fail)
Remove sunglasses, hats or face coverings
Hold your phone at eye level, not above or below your face
Keep still — movement blurs the scan
Clean your camera lens with a dry cloth
Use your rear camera if the front camera is low quality (some phones allow this)
Fix 5: Use a Computer Instead of a Phone
If your phone cannot complete E-KYC, use a laptop or desktop with a webcam.
Open Chrome on your computer
Go to srd.sassa.gov.za
Log in with your ID number and OTP
Complete E-KYC using your computer webcam
A computer running Chrome handles the E-KYC biometric step more reliably than most mobile browsers.
What If E-KYC Keeps Failing After All Fixes?
If you have tried all of the above and the selfie verification still fails:
Wait 24 hours and try again — SASSA’s E-KYC system sometimes has server-side issues that resolve on their own
Call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 — report that E-KYC is not completing and ask for manual verification
Visit a SASSA office — bring your original ID. A SASSA officer can complete biometric verification in person using SASSA’s own devices
Visiting a SASSA office is the guaranteed fallback. Their devices are pre-configured for E-KYC so you will not run into the camera permission issues that cause problems on personal phones.
Is SASSA E-KYC Safe?
Yes — as long as you are on the official SASSA website (srd.sassa.gov.za). Check the URL carefully before allowing camera access.
What is safe:
Allowing the official SASSA site to access your camera
Completing the selfie on your own device
What is NOT safe:
Letting anyone else hold your phone during E-KYC
Completing E-KYC on a link sent via WhatsApp or SMS — these can be phishing sites
Sharing your screen while doing E-KYC via video call
E-KYC stands for Electronic Know Your Customer. It is a biometric face verification step SASSA added to confirm that the person applying for the SRD grant is the actual owner of the ID number. You take a selfie on the SASSA website and the system compares your face to your ID photo.
Why does SASSA need a selfie?
SASSA introduced selfie verification to reduce fraud. Before E-KYC, criminals were applying for grants using stolen ID numbers. The face scan confirms the living person behind the application matches the ID.
My E-KYC selfie failed three times — what now?
Wait a few hours and try again using the desktop mode method described above. If it fails again, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest SASSA office for in-person biometric verification. Do not keep retrying repeatedly in the same session as the system may temporarily lock your account.
Can I do SASSA E-KYC on WhatsApp?
No. SASSA’s selfie E-KYC only runs on the official website srd.sassa.gov.za. Any WhatsApp message or link claiming to offer E-KYC verification is a scam.
Does E-KYC work without internet?
No. The face scan is processed on SASSA’s servers so you need an active internet connection. If your data is slow, the E-KYC page may time out. Connect to WiFi if possible for a more stable connection.
What happens if I skip E-KYC?
You cannot skip it. E-KYC is a mandatory step in the SASSA SRD verification process. Your application or reconfirmation will remain incomplete until biometric verification is done.
